Alex Contreras
Alex was born in Caracas Venezuela and came to Utah at the age of five years old. Although his passion for dancing started at a very young age, his formal training began at the age of ten when he joined the BYU Youth Ballroom program. He then continued his dance training on a more competitive level under the direction of Rick Robinson. He has also had the opportunity to study under some of the world’s greatest coaches and trainers.
Some of his achievements and titles include: Junior American style national champion, Youth Latin national champion, Youth and Amateur Latin state champion, British Open Latin formation champion, and finalist in the National Amateur Latin Championships. He has appeared in many commercials, advertisements and movies including Shall We Dance (2004), and recently appeared in Fox’s hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance Season 3.
After serving an LDS mission to California in 2001, he became a member of Origins Dance Company where he has been able to continue his love of performing. He hopes that dance will always be a part of his life and that he will be able to pass on the knowledge and passion he has gained throughout his career.
